A man, woman, and baby smile for a selfie in front of a green leafy background decorated with small flowers.I heard about Phil’s Friends in 2017, while I was in Arizona visiting my brother, William, who was dying of pancreatic cancer. I saw the beautiful Care Package he’d received from Phil’s Friends and all the Cards of Hope, which he loved getting every week.

Three days before he died, he asked me to check the mail. “Maybe my card came,” he said. Those cards meant the world to him. He received 67 in all, and to this day my sister-in-law still has them stored in a box.

After he died and I returned home to Glendale Heights, Illinois, I called Phil’s Friends to inquire about the closest Hope Center to me. Turns out it was in Wheaton, very close to where I live.

I wanted to help, because Phil’s Friends had helped my brother. The hope and joy the Care Package and Cards of Hope gave him up until his last day here on earth is beyond describing.

I love volunteering to help others. The staff and other volunteers are like family to me. Everything we do at Phil’s Friends is for a great cause, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
